"I Don't Draw With A Mouse"

Audrey goes digital
I don't use a keyboard to draw. I use a pen that has a small magnet on its tip and a drawing pad that is sensitive to the magnet. When I draw on the tablet, the harder I press, the thicker the line; the lighter I press, the thinner the line. This pressure sensitive drawing creates lines that are real artist's lines. They have texture, poetry, and style.
The digital pen is plastic, and the tablet is also plastic and very smooth. When you place the pen on the tablet and draw, it feels slick. It's the first time in the history of art an artist has been able to draw without feeling any friction. At first it felt like I was drawing on air, but now I've grown used to it. Using a pencil on paper now feels slow and awkward. The software, Fractal Design Painter, has paint boxes, brushes, palettes, and papers that I can select and use. I can even create and customize brushes or art tools that no one else has.
