Discovering the words and sounds that birds seem to make in their whistles and trills can be a hoot! Everyone knows which bird calls, " caw - caw - caw", but who do you think calls, "Teacher - Teacher - Teacher!" Find out in BIRDSONG.
For a fun and educational activity, make your own Field Guide to Birdsong. First, find a wild bird identification book (there are several in print). Read the short descriptions about wild birds and see how many wild bird calls you can collect that are not in my book BIRDSONG. Bird calls from the same bird will vary from book to book. After you have discovered new birdsongs, draw or find pictures of the birds, write their calls next to them, and collect them in your birdsong field guide notebook. Perhaps one day you'll hear a call and know which bird it is without even having to look!
