YAHOO, It's Christmas! I love Christmas. Everyone is all bundled up in layers and layers of clothing and as they waddle their way down the street I feel as though I'm surrounded by a lot of large birds. I never feel more at home than I do at Christmas. Everything is colored in bright reds and greens, just like me. If I had to choose a favorite part of Christmas, though, I'd have to say it's the tree. It's like having a bit of the forest delivered right to my house. Now, most people feel that the Christmas tree is a good place to gather around, share stories and exchange gifts, but I have a much more practical use for it. I like to sit in it! It feels like home when I nestle in amongst the branches. Just the other day I was sitting in the tree as usual, enjoying a little peace and quiet before the holiday rush when in wanders Gizmo the cat. Gizmo and I share the same house, but we pretty much stay out of each other's way. The deal is Gizmo doesn't bat me around like a catnip ball and I don't break her ear drums with my screeching. Well, that works well most of the time, but on this particular day she sat at the base of the tree and stared up at me. It's been so long since I lived in the rain forest that I've totally forgotten how to fly. I mean, who needs it when you have a private limousine? Silly me, I tried it anyway. I jumped and flapped and sank like a stone. Gizmo's eyes grew wide with fright as I plummeted toward her face. I bonked her on the head and we tumbled a few times across the living room floor. She batted and I squawked until Audrey came into the room demanding that we live in peace, at least during the Christmas season. After some angry stares and some grumpy mumblings we agreed that she was probably right. To express our new friendship I gave Gizmo a jar of my most flavorful seeds and she gave me a bowl of raw liver. We smiled at each other and realized it's the thought that counts.
